Miranda's New Kaleido-Modular Multi-Viewer Wins TV Technology STAR Award

September 24, 2009 --

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/24/09 -- Miranda's new Kaleido-Modular multi-viewer has won a STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award from TV Technology Europe magazine at this year's IBC convention in Amsterdam. The STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. Products are examined for their technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry.

The Kaleido-Modular card-based multi-viewer system offers outstanding space and energy efficiency. It can provide up to 20 multi-viewer outputs per 3RU frame and a fully populated frame consumes just 300 watts in total. "Energy issues are being taken very seriously across all types of broadcast facilities and this is driving equipment vendors like Miranda towards more power efficient designs," said Marco Lopez, Miranda's Senior Vice-President - Interfacing, Monitoring and Control.

Each Kaleido-Modular card provides eight 3Gbps/HD/SD video inputs (with 3D support) and two multi-viewer outputs. Up to 10 multi-viewer modules can be housed in a 3RU Densite 3 frame, which weighs just 8.6Kg (19lbs) when fully populated.

The super-silent Kaleido-Modular multi-viewer offers outstanding picture quality, using the same scaling technology as Miranda's top of the range Kaleido-X processor. Each multi-viewer module can be configured to provide either dual quad-split outputs, or a single multi-viewer output which can display up to eight pictures.

Kaleido-Modular features tight integration with Miranda's NVISION, and third party, routers, allowing expansion of up to 1,152 video inputs and up to 288 multi-viewer outputs. This represents the very largest combined routing and multi-viewer system available.
